The Fine Print.
These rules are really only specific to the winner of the promotion, but we’re listing them publicly for transparency.
1. The design and budgeting of the build will be managed by MetalMorphosis Customs. The winner will have input in the decisions relating to the design and budget but must also take advice given by MetalMorphosis Customs. We have several decades of experience in the industry, if the winner fails to head advice given, they will assume full responsibility for any adverse outcomes.
2. The winner agrees to allow MetalMorphosis Customs to have full control over elements of the build that relate to the roadworthiness and safety of the vehicle. We will not agree to carry out work that we deem to pose a risk to the safety of the vehicle or its occupants. We will also refuse to carry out any work which will deem the car unroadworthy, or to carry out work that may cause detriment to the vehicle in future years. We know what we’re doing, let us do it right. We will not cut corners to meet your budget requirements.
3. You may add your own money to the build budget, or purchase more hours of labor, if your build cannot be completed within the winning allotment of hours. We will let you know before we commence work if the scope of work required is in excess of the 800 hours of labor you have won. Or if it is impossible to fit all of your requests into the parts budget. Additional labour hours are at our normal shop rate of $60/hour.
4. The build time for this promotion will be 12 months from the date of delivery of the vehicle to us. For example, if you win the prize on December 20th, 2022, and then deliver your vehicle to us in March of 2023 - we agree to have your build finished by March of 2024. In the event that the scope of work is greater than 800 hours of labor, we will renegotiate the time for completion of the project.
5. (Unacceptable Behavior Clause) We really hope that the winner of this prize will act in a respectful and reasonable manner throughout the build. In the event that the winner acts in a unreasonable manner, is malicious or disrespectful, is threatening or belligerent, beyond what a reasonable person would find to be acceptable, we reserve the right to terminate the contract. The winner will be given a written warning if they are at risk of having the contract terminated, and if they continue to behave in a manner unbefitting of the nature of the contest, the contract will be terminated within 30 days of the written notice. The winner will then be required to collect their vehicle, and any unused portion of their parts budget will be paid out to them.
6. As this is a promotion is intended to showcase the work we perform, it would be very much appreciate if we can negotiate the ability to show the winners completed car at a minimum of two shows after it’s completed. The details will be negotiated with the winner when we are nearing completion of the car. This is not compulsory, but we will probably think you’re a bit of a jerk if you don’t allow it.
7. The winner may choose to have any air cooled Volkswagen restored/rebuilt. This includes Beetles, Buses, Karmann Ghias, Things, and Type 3s. Please keep in mind that a Beetle costs far less to restore/rebuild than a bus or Ghia. While we aim for ‘show quality’ finish for all of our giveaways, you budget is going to go further with a Bug than it will on a Bus. This may mean that you end up with less money to ‘play with’ if you choose to do a Bus or Type 3. We will work with your to help manage your expectations, if we think your vision exceeds your budget.
8. The labor budget can only be used for labor provided BY MMC. The cost of labor provided by outside contractors (ie sand blasting, engraving, pin striping) must come out of the parts budget, or be paid out of pocket by the winner. Labor hours are not transferable to third party contractors.
9. Labor hours are not transferable. In the event that the winner does not use all 800 hours on the winning project, they forfeit those hours. Excess hours can not be carried over onto another project at a later time, and can not be ‘cashed out’.
10. The parts budget allocated to the prize is equal to (or above) the parts budget for both the ‘Paisley’ and ‘Charity’ builds. If you allow us to guide you with the allocation of funds, we can ensure that you will end up with a all-round, high quality, show car. If you insist on spending the bulk of your budget on one specific area of the build, we cannot guarantee you will end up with a car that is finished to the standard of our previous builds.
We reserve the right to add more conditions to this list up until the date of drawing the winner of this competition. These rules exist mostly in an effort to avoid having our good nature taken advantage of. We want more than anything to build you a really cool car and for this to be a positive experience for everyone.
